Interview Profile

• Paperwork is very important
  • Be sure you have everything they request
  • Be sure all forms are filled out correctly
• Interview begins by applicants being led into a large room to complete further paperwork
• As paperwork is being completed, applicants are brought out of the room for one of three interviews, each held in a separate room
  • Two technical based interveiws covering: Systems, Weather, Regualtions, Jepps
  • Human Resource Interview
• After the three interviews, wait by a picture of an EMB-145 and be told if you were successful or not
• If successful- photographed, fingerprinted, drug screened

Technical Questions

• Be familiar with the aircraft you are currently flying. Expect questions on any of its' systems and emergency procedures
  • Explain the landing gear system on your current aircraft.
  • Which engine is critical? How would you handle a failure of that engine?
• What is Vmc
• What are the 9 factors affecting Vmc?
• Is VMC higher or lower at high altitude versus sea level?
• Know Jepps symbology for High, Low, and Approach charts
• Identify and define MEA, Grid MORA, MOCA, MCA. Know what each assures you of.
• How do you know if this area on the chart contains mountainous terrain?
• Why does one DME distance have a D with an arrow and the other has a D, Arrow, and number?
• What's this magenta area? What is this green area?
• Tell me everything you know about this VOR from looking at the chart.
• What does MVMVMVMV mean on an enroute chart.
• What do brown jet routes with brown diamonds mean?
• Show me something on this chart I might not know.
• Know how to compute hold entries, and hold speeds for all altitudes.
• Calculate a VDP
  • If you are past your VDP and you see the runway, can you land?
• What is GPS and how does it work?

• What is WAAS? How does it work?
• What is LAAS? How does it work?
• What is the difference between WAAS and LAAS?
• What is the difference between the military's GPS and civilian GPS?
• Airspeeds in Class B above 10,000'.

• Airway has half circle around waypoint, what does that mean?
• Know how to operate IFR in a non-radar environment. Where is the IAF? When would you accomplish a course reversal?
• Approach Plates: Mazatlan, Mexico, VOR DME-2, Rwy 26, and Torreon Mexico. You are at high altitude (in the flight levels), when will you start your descent. How will you fly this approach assuming there is no radar?
• What is the transitional altitude?
• When will you descend from the FAP? What is the difference between a FAF and a FAP?
• When will you descend below MDA?
• How far is VOR down the runway?
• If the weather goes below minimums and you are on the final approach segment of an ILS can you continue?
• How many approaches can be conducted using this ILS approach chart?

• Be ready for a long day- bring snacks, or singles for the vending machines
• One guy got kicked out of our interview class immediately for not having correct paperwork. Make sure you have everything they want and that it's correct!
• They booked me positive space to the interview, which was great. Good group of people, seems like a great company.
