Written test
A written test covering Part 61, 91, AIM-IFR Stuff,
Multiengine Aerodynamics, & Weather was to be completed throughout the day.
Be careful with their numbering system:
find the question number on the answer sheet first, then look it up in the
question collection book.
Lots of questions on alternates
textual weather products
when you can descend below DA/MDA
basic aerodynamics
multi aerodynamics
some general weather theory
basic IFR weather minimums
wake turbulence
some wx, squall line questions
Study part 61 for currency requirements
91 for IFR
review the AIM
What are the required
mins if you are going to your alternate and the airport doesn’t have an
instrument approach
Simulator evaluation
Read up on NOS plates
They provide you with
three approaches. You will only shoot two of them – one non-precision and
one precision
Review all approaches
for Newark-Heath, OH; Columbus, OH; & Columbus – Ohio State University
before coming to interview
They provide the approach plates and
checklist in the sim: VOR-A into Newark-heat, ILS 28L Port Columbus.
Depart 28L from CMH,
engine fails on runway. Call tower, they will reset the sim.
Then depart and climb
to 3000 ft. and receive vectors
Steep turn right or
left
Slow flight
Power off stall
Hold west of the IAF (PIRIC
Int) for the LOC Approach at Newark
While giving the
instructions the attitude indicator failed
Enter hold
Get AI back in the
hold and Shot LOC 9 Newark. Don’t see the runway
Go missed, on climb
out engine fails.
Then get vectors for
the ILS CMH 28L
Shoot the approach
single engine, land and you're done
Make sure to use the
checklists they provide
Fly the ILS needles to the DA, then check
for visuals, decide what to do after reaching DA. Fly the needles to the
asphalt - don't attempt a single engine go-around on the ILS. Be a captain
of the sim.
Get sim prep the day before with a recruiter. It will
teach you every clue they are looking for, and the instructors are the best.
Focus on basic instrument scan, fly the plane first when the engine quits.

I interviewed mid February '08, and everything was
*exactly* as described in this gouge - to the letter. I'm invited to class
even though a lot of the interview and sim ride was far from perfect. Thanks!

During the written test, or about 11:30-12:00, they serve lunch. They like
subway, know a menu item you want. Be prepared to talk during lunch, informal
stuff. Know stuff about the Learjet, show a desire to upgrade into it.
They want people who see the benefit of their "five year progression".
They pay for transportation to the interview: bring airline receipt. (2/28/08)
